Spritz cookie recipe:

– 1 cup of butter softened
– 1/2 cup sugar
– 1 egg
– 1/2 tsp salt
– 1 tsp vanilla or almond extract
– 2 1/4 cups all purpose flour
food coloring gel
cookie press

Begin by creaming the butter and sugar together for 1 minute, then add in the egg and mix to combine. Add in the salt and vanilla and mix. Then add in the flour all at once and slowly pulse until just combined.

Once you have your dough, divide it into equal parts depending on the total number of colors you want in your final cookie. I made 6 different colors for these hearts (light pink, dark pink, orange, coral, lime, and turquoise).

Once you have your dough colored, roll it out into logs.

You will want to roll each log into appx. 1/2″ thick pieces. Then stack all the colors together and gently roll to make a long multi color log. Now slowly place your cookie dough into your cookie press, add the heart plate, and lid.

To make your cookies, place the press down on your baking sheet (no need to grease them as you want the cookies to stick to the tray when coming out of the press).

I found one click of my press made the perfect heart shape, but experiment with a few to get the perfect size. The more you press the more dough squeezes out, so you want to get the amount just right so that you get a heart shape.

Fill up your tray with cookies. This recipe doesn’t spread, so feel free to get them as close together as the press allows.

Bake at 350F for 6-8 minutes. You want to undercook them so that the edges don’t turn brown and discolor the cookies.

Once out, let cool and they are ready to eat!
