You may remember a few weeks ago when I made these clay shard ornaments and also mentioned my current obsession with splatter paint? Well, I was left with extra colorful triangle shaped pieces of clay from that project and after a little tinkering, these asymmetric splatter painted necklaces came together. I love the asymmetric shape of them and that they are so much easier to make than they look! Plus that gold splatter paint? Pure awesomeness!

Pretty amazing, right?! Follow along below for the tutorial on making your own!

The Supplies:

• Polymer Clay in at least 3 colors
• Small rolling pin (I used an acrylic one for clay from the craft store)
• X-acto Knife
• Glue (either hot glue or industrial strength glue like E6000)
• Jewelry mounting plate (basically a small round plate with a loop attached for mounting stones. I found mine in the jewelry department of the craft store)
• Necklace chain
• DecoColor Gold Paint Pen

Begin by rolling out your clay to be roughly 1/4″ thick. Use your X-acto knife to cut the clay into random triangle shapes. Place the clay on an upside down baking sheet and bake at 275°F for 15 minutes. Remove and let cool.

Once cool, use your glue to overlap and glue pieces of the clay together to form an asymmetric piece that is visually appealing to you.

Once your pieces are glued together, flip the piece over and glue on the metal mounting piece.

Then take your pendants outside and splatter them with gold paint. To do this, press the tip of the paint pen down onto a scratch piece of paper or cardboard until the paint starts to seep from the tip. Place the pen 6-12″ from the pendants and flick the pen downwards to get the paint to splatter on the pendants. Repeat several times until the pendants have enough splatter. Let dry fully overnight. Then add your necklace chain and they are done. If you wish, you can also spray the pieces with a clear shellac to make sure the gold stays put, but I liked the matte look of the pendants.
