I love the concept of an adult mobile. A pretty little twirly something to add height and visual interest to a space. No need for functionality, just prettiness hanging from the ceiling. I have seen several ideas for an adult mobile, but I wanted to try something different. So I used gold macrame hoops in various sizes to create this simple little orb mobile that is perfect for hanging above a reading nook, over a bedside table, or even over a credenza.

The Supplies:

• Gold Macrame Hoops in 14″, 12″, 8″, and 6″ sizes
• 22 gauge brass jewelry wire
• Large gold jewelry cable chain

 Begin with the 14″ and 12″ hoop. Place the 12″ hoop perpendicular to the 14″ hoop to create your orb shape, then wrap your wire around the two creating an x like pattern, then add the 8″ hoop inside the 12″ hoop and at an angle to both the 14″ and 12″ hoops and wrap the wire around the 8″ hoop and the larger hoops to create another x pattern. Finally add the 6″ hoop inside and perpendicular to the 8″ hoop and wrap one final time to make sure all the hoops are connected and held in place by the wire.

Now you just need to add your heavy duty jewelry chain to the top loop of the orb mobile and it is ready to hang from the ceiling using a little hook screw. I eschewed the cable chain for a little something silly and used these gold paperclips I found and Home Goods instead. How fun are they as a chain?!
