The Supplies:
- White Ceramic Cereal Bowls (I used these)
- Spray Paint in Fun Colors (I particularly like the color options of Montana Gold Series Spray Paint and used the colors shrimp, shocking pink, and lychee for my bowls)
- Gold Leaf Pen
Begin by cleaning and drying your bowls, then wiping them down with a bit of rubbing alcohol to get a nice clean surface. Turn the bowls upside down and spray the bottom of the bowls and just down the sides of the bowls around the bottom edge (the part closest to the bottom of the bowl not the top lip) with the spray paint.
By concentrating your spray to only the bottom of the bowl and the portion just around the sides of the bottom of the bowl you will get a nice dark color on the bottom of the bowl that will slightly fade up to the top of the bowl thanks to the light misty over-spray.
Let your bowl dry for at least an hour or two and then flip your bowl right side up and use the gold leaf pen to color around the edge of the bowl to give it a pretty gold rim.
Since this is a bowl and not a cup, you don’t have to worry about putting your mouth on the edge of the bowl or your food coming in contact with the gold leaf (or spray paint), but if you are worried about it you can also use this technique to get a similar looking gold edge.
Let your bowls cure for 3-4 days before using or washing them. Once the paint has cured, you can use the bowls for your next bowl of cereal, smoothie bowl, or even hot items like soup.
The only downside of the bowls is that they are not dishwasher safe, so you have to hand wash these babies. But that is a price I am willing to pay for such beautiful bowls! Aren’t you?

Those are beautiful, Kara! The gold around the edge is a nice touch, too. Thanks for sharing!
