Make It – Donut Embroidery Hoop Wall Art

Everyone loves donuts. Well, I hope that everyone loves donuts! And although it probably wouldn’t be a good idea to eat them everyday, you can at least look at them everyday. Make a few of these felt donut embroidery hoops to hang on your wall and you will (hopefully) be able to keep your donut cravings in check.

You could easily make just one doughnut for a fun art piece,
but I like my faux doughnut art just like I like my real doughnuts: in a large
assortment. Follow along below for the full tutorial.

The Supplies:

First, trace your embroidery hoop on the felt you’ve chosen
as your icing color to get the correct size. Then, cut out the circle, giving
the icing a wavy edge like real doughnut icing. Trace a smaller object for the
center hole (I used a thread spool for the small doughnuts and a spray paint
can for the larger doughnuts) and cut out the center hole. Glue your icing onto
the tan felt and cut out the center hole in the tan felt to line up with the
icing hole.

Next, line up your doughnut in the embroidery hoop, put on
the outer ring and tighten to create your doughnut hoop. Cut away the extra
felt that sticks out of the hoop.
The last steps are adding embroidered sprinkles, icing
squiggle, or whipped cream dollop.  I
used different colors of embroidery floss to add 1/4″ long sprinkles all
the way around the doughnut. For the icing squiggle, I stitched on doubled-up
embroidery floss. And for the whipped cream dollop, I cut a 1/2″ wide and
12″ long piece of white felt and used white embroidery floss to make a
loose gathering stitch on the bottom of the felt. Then I  pulled the embroidery floss tight to create a
swirl of white felt that resembled a dollop of whipped cream. I then stitched
this onto the doughnut.
Now just repeat, repeat, repeat as many times as you want to
create a whole assortment of doughnuts. My daughter has already claimed them
for her room, but I think they would also be fun to make for a doughnut party
(which should occur at least once a month right?). Can you imagine a whole wall
of these behind the food table?!

These are so cute and would make perfect party decor! I may just have to have a donut party for no reason at all!
