Craft It – Mini Cinder Block Succulent Planter Magnets

filed under

Most of my crafting begins by just looking all around me and gaining inspiration from what I see. Whether it is in the craft store looking at new products, at Target/Home Goods/Other random decor store, or even just in my craft room, I tend to draw ideas for new crafts from everywhere. And sometimes those craft ideas come from something I already crafted. That is where these cute mini cinder block magnets came from. You remember my post last week about the mini cinder block garden for your desk? Well, after making it, I thought to myself, ‘Hey! These little cinder block succulent planters would make awesome magnets for my fridge!’. And just like that (and with a bit of glue) I turned the mini cinder blocks into ultra cute magnets. I mean come on with the cuteness!

The Supplies:

  •  Mini Painted Cinder Blocks  (I’m not going to go over the process for making your own mini painted cinder blocks again, you can just read this post for the full how-to, or you can purchase them pre-made here.)
  • Industrial Strength Glue (E6000 or Power Tac)
  • Magnets
  • Mini Succulents

Once you have your cinder blocks and have painted them with a bit of acrylic paint, use an industrial strength glue to attach the magnets to the back and glue in your mini succulents.

Let the glue dry overnight, then you can use them on your fridge or white board to hold up anything you want from photos, to post cards, to drawings from your kids. Or you know, photos of your feet on your new rug because having it on your floor isn’t enough and you need to look at it’s beauty every time you walk by the fridge! Hahaha…

And hey! If you don’t want to hang stuff on your fridge (I totally get that BTW), glue on a thumb tack instead and you have yourself a set of the prettiest bulletin board pins anywhere.

Oh, and if you love them but don’t want to make them yourself, you can grab an already made set here in my etsy shop and I will do all the work for you!

I love this, but where could I find the mini succulents?

I just cut off pieces from regular faux succulents I found at the craft store.
