My mother-in-law recently moved and has been going through years of antiques and collectibles. Among her treasures was the cutest wooden Norwegian cake box that she got when they lived overseas in Norway. Because I am the baker and crafter of the family, I was the lucky recipient of the box with the permission to do whatever I wanted. The shape was perfect and I just knew that it was begging for a pretty paint job. So with a bit of paint I turned it into the perfect summer picnic basket and filled it with sandwiches, fruit, snacks, and of course my favorite treat, new OREO THINS. Now I am ready for all of our summer picnic outings!
The most difficult part of this project was choosing the colors to paint the box, but I knew that I definitely wanted to have a pop of hot pink in there somewhere. I finally decided to paint the handle and side wood closures hot pink and was then inspired by the new OREO THINS and went with a black and white stripe for the body of the picnic basket. Follow along for more details.
All you need for this project is a picnic basket or box (try searching
Norwegian cake box to find a similar one), acrylic craft paint, and a
paint brush.
To paint the picnic box, I simply began by painting the box white using acrylic craft paint, then used painters tape to tape off the box and paint the handles and sides. The last step was to use the painters tape to tape off horizontal lines and paint them black. Since my box was made with unfinished wood, I didn’t need to prep the box at all and could just paint directly on the wood.
favorite flavor of the new 12 packs of OREO THINS from Walmart in individual 4 count packages (mine are OREO THINS Golden). They are
the prefect thin, crunchy treat to end your meal.
