Eat It – An Iced Coffee Breakfast Freak Shake

filed under

Have you all seen the over-the-top milkshakes called freak shakes that are popping up at restaurants all over the country? I have yet to try an actual one, but all the photos of these concoctions look too good to be true. Think a milkshake topped with donuts, cupcakes, cotton candy, ice cream, chocolate syrup, caramel sauce, etc… Well, it was about time that I tried my to make my own freak shake, but instead of the milkshake I used iced coffee and instead of a bunch of desserts, I used breakfast pastries to create the ultimate breakfast freak ice coffee treat.

Oh yes! It was glorious and even better than I could have imagined. Although just a bit messy. Ha!

To begin I coated my glass with chocolate syrup, then rolled it in a few colorful sprinkles. Because what’s breakfast without sprinkles? Then I added ice and my favorite iced coffee.

Then it was just time to load up all the carb-y breakfast goods I could get my hands on. I used everything from powdered donuts, to regular sprinkle donuts, to a cinnamon roll, pop-tart, and waffle. OMG, YUM!

I used a straw as an anchor and started with my donut, then my waffles, cinnamon roll, and just sort of tucked those mini donuts and pop-tarts on where I could. The final step? More chocolate and caramel sauce and sprinkles of course!

Now that is a breakfast trend I can get behind! But don’t worry, I did not consume this entire thing by myself. My kids got a special summer break treat and helped me consume this freak (sans iced coffee; that was for me only!). How fun would these be at your next brunch? I can just see the looks on the guests faces now.
