When I was a kid, I hated the color gold. My mom loved it and all her jewelry was gold and of course I had to rebel in every small way, so I only liked silver. My, my how the tables have turned. Well, not hers (she still loves gold), but mine. I love the way gold accents instantly make something seem more high end and gorgeous. It’s really kind of amazing how you can transform something so easily by just adding a touch of gold to it. Take these vases for example. I found these fun shaped vases at Ikea for 5.99 for a set of two and loved the shapes, but not the colors so much. But I knew with a little bit of spray paint and a few gold additions, I could easily turn these vases into DIY gold accented flower vases that are just my style.
For these vases I thought it would be fun to show you three different ways to add gold accents. But first you need a plain colorful vase. For these ones from Ikea, I simply spray painted them with Montana Gold spray paint in lychee, bazooka joe, pink pink, and malachite dark. Once dry, they were ready to decorate.
Materials for DIY Gold Accented Flower Vases:
-Colorful flower vases
–Gold adhesive vinyl foil
–Gold paint pen
For the first pink vase with gold confetti, I simply used scissors to cut tiny strips of gold foil vinyl and then peel off the backing and attach them to the vase like a sticker. So simple and such an easy way to elevate a plain vase!
For the teal vase, I used the gold paint pen to splatter gold paint onto the painted vase surface and let dry. You can also use regular gold craft paint and a paint brush to add the splatters, but I like the extra metallic sheen of the paint pen.
For the final vase, I went with a cheeky flower pun. To make this vase, I used my electronic vinyl cutter to cut out a my saying from metallic gold foil vinyl. Next I carefully removed the negative space vinyl leaving only the letters of my pun on the baking paper. Then I covered the letters with a large piece of transfer tape and used that to transfer the letters to my vase. After rubbing the letters on, I removed the masking and my vase was ready for a few “damn”delion flowers.
I love how simple all of these modifications were! So take your pick of your favorite method and use it to make a few DIY gold accented flower vases of your very own!

I absolutely hated gold when I was kid, too! I think it had a lot to do with having to be different to my mum as well 😂 Whilst I don’t hate it as much now, I still think I will always prefer silver!
