I know that I have touted the amazingness of the GlowForge more than you all might want to hear, but I just keep being amazed at the things it can make. The latest in my creations with the at home laser cutter is this super cute and perfect for summer DIY monstera leaf cheese board. Cheese boards are cropping up all over Instagram these days and summer is the perfect time to make your own and then invite friends over to enjoy the snacks with a glass of frose or a mocktail. This monstera leaf cheese board is perfect for these summer get togethers because not only is it functional, but it brings all the summer vibes!
The process is really quite simple if you have a Glowforge to cut out your shape. If you dont’ have a Glowforge, you can always try using a scroll saw to make one. Or you can purchase a pre-cut one here in my shop.
Materials to make your own DIY Monstera Leaf Cheese Board
- MDF or Plywood (1/4″ thick)
- This template
- Milk Paint (food safe casien based powdered paint)
- Food safe mineral oil
Begin by uploading your template to the Glowforge app. Then select proof grade cut for 1/4″ MDF or plywood. Next, cut out your leaf shape from the wood.
Once cut, it is time to mix up your milk paint. The paint comes as a powder and you simply add water to it to make a paint consistency. For this leaf I used spearmint with a tiny bit of lily pad to get the perfect green color. Once the paint is mixed. Simply paint on your wood surface and let dry. You may need to do a second coat once the first coat is dry. Feel free to paint the other side of the leaf as well.
Once the second coat is dry, use a paper towel to rub the surface with the mineral oil. Let sit overnight and then rub down with a second coat. This will protect your wood surface from all the food you serve on it. Repeat with the backside of the cheese board.
Once your board is coated, it is ready to use. Just serve up your favorite cheese, fruit, and snacks on the most perfect summer cheese board. So simple and yet so stunning! What other shapes would youe cut your cheese boards in if you had your own Glowforge? Cactus? Flower? Geometric shapes? Tell me!
