By now you know that I love color and will paint anything to give it a colorful splash. Don’t get me wrong, its not that I don’t like natural elements like wood and cream colored canvas, I do. But I just can’t help but add color to everything! I went to Target the other day hoping that they would have their new fall decor out. Instead there was just the clearance decor from last season with these dark wood candle holders 50% off. The shape of them was gorgeous and you can’t beat $12.50 for three taper candle holders, so I snapped them up knowing that a little paint would make them perfect for me.

I guess that is the lesson here, don’t feel like you have to use something off the shelf just as it is. You can always add color or pattern of your very own to customize the piece to suit your style. These DIY color blocked taper candle holders were pretty in their natural tuned wood, but oh so much better for me and my home decor style in the bright color blocked look.

Materials to make your own DIY Color Blocked Taper Candle Holders:

• Wood taper candle holders (these were from Target, but you can find similar ones here)
• Acrylic craft paint
• Paint brushes

So it really is as simple as painting the candle sticks two different colors. You can tape off the candle stick at the middle (or try various heights for the color blocking for a unique look) and then just paint as many coats as are needed to give an opaque finish. Once dry, add a few colorful tapers and your candle sticks are ready to decorate your mantel, table, or bar cart!

I kinda like the look of the wood with the dipped colors too. Obviously if you are going to do this, you would want to tape off the candle holder so that you can get a nice clean line. I only taped off the second color so that I could get that final clean line.

Aren’t they pretty paired with my abtract art wrapping paper that I framed and ALL THE PLANTS?! Now this styled vignette makes my heart explode with colorful happiness!
