Last year I found the cutest pom pom tassel heart wall hanging at Target and wouldn’t you know that every time I post a picture with it up on my wall for Valentine’s Day I get questions about where it came from. Unfortunately it is no longer available at Target, but can totally be recreated with a little craftiness. I even found metal heart hoops that make the whole process a snap! Follow along below to make your own DIY pom pom tassel heart wall hanging.

Materials to make your own DIY Pom Pom Tassel Heart Wall Hanging:
- Metal Heart Hoop
- Yarn (any kind or colors you like, I used Omegacryl)
- Pom pom maker
- Hot glue gun
- Scissors
- Needle and twine or thread
- Spray paint (optional to paint the wire heart frame)

Begin by spray painting the wire frame if you want it a different color than gold or silver. I used a hot pink spray paint for my heart.
While the paint dries, you will want to start making your pom poms using the pom pom maker. Just wrap the yarn around each side of the maker, then fold the sides is and trim around the edge. Next wrap a piece of yarn around the middle of the pom pom maker and tie in a knot. Open the pom pom maker to reveal your pom pom. Then repeat this step several more times to make 7 total pom poms for your heart.

For the tassels simply wrap the yarn around a piece of cardboard about 4″ wide (you can also use a book or even your cell phone for this) until it is about 1/2″ to 1″ thick. Then slip a piece of yarn through the loops of yarn and tie the pieces together. Next, cut the yarn off the cardboard on the side opposite where you tied the yarn. Finally wrap a piece of yarn around the top of the tassel about 1/4 to 1/2″ from the top and tie to secure. Trim up the tassel and repeat a few more times.

Next, hot glue the pom poms to the wire heart frame. To create the tiered tassel, use a needle and twine to sew up through the tassels to secure them to each other. Then hot glue the twine to the bottom of the heart.

And that’s it! While it may seem like there are a lot of steps, the process of making the pom poms and the tassels is pretty quick and simple once you get the hang of it. Then it is simply a mater of hot gluing everything on to the wire heart!
