Once it arrived and I set it up (which took no time at all), two things came to mind: “This is a party tree!” and “It reminds me of New Years Eve”. The colors of the tree fade from a champagne gold at the bottom, brass and bronze shades in the middle, and finally, a dark black on top.  With all of the metallic colors in the mix, I decided to transform the tree into a glitzy and glamorous mixed metal extravaganza.

First up were the geometric ornaments I talked about yesterday. The different polygon gem ornaments in silver, gold, and copper helped play up all the metal tones and really lent to the mid century feel this tree had going on.

After the geometric ornaments were on, I started to create a few others in mixed metal tones to help fill out the tree. I like the look of different shapes and textures in my trees as it helps give more dimension and character. My next DIY decoration to put up were small paper fans I made out of gold and copper wrapping paper (the gold from Home Goods, the copper from Target).

I also made a few “party” ornaments to tie into the ‘New Years Eve Party’ feel of the tree. I found some black matte ball-ornaments at At Home and cut out words like ‘Party’,’ Pop’, ‘Fizz’, and ‘Clink’ in gold vinyl on my vinyl cutter (similar to a Silhouette Cameo), applied the masking tape, then stuck them on the ornaments.

 

To finish out the tree, I added a few gold leaf snowflakes, gold tassels, and a crown of gold ball picks for the top.

The final touch to create a full blown mixed metal tree was to add a DIY gold tree skirt (which I will tell you more about tomorrow) and a few silver and copper wrapped presents.

I ‘m really happy with how it turned out. It has such a slim profile, it fits perfectly in the corner of the dining room. The mix of geometric ornaments and paper fans in a variety of metal colors is definitely not traditional Christmas, but still exudes a holiday party vibe and will be perfect to keep up through New Years!
