Guys! I am so excited about today’s project. These soap bars are so rad it is killing me. I had the idea a while back to try making 80’s inspired soap, but I did not anticipate how amazing they would turn out! So good! And honestly although they look complicated, they really are quite simple to make. So yay! Now who’s ready to see how to make 80’s inspired soap bars?
Materials for How to Make 80’s Inspired Soap Bars:
–Clear melt and pour soap (you can find this online or at the craft store)
-Soap colorant (I like to use these no bleed soap blocks) – blue raspberry, lemonade, bubblegum, and black
–Rectangle silicone soap mold
-Knife
-Glass measuring cup
-Rubbing alcohol in spray bottle
–Small shaped cookie cutters (or you can use the knife to cut pieces by hand)
Begin by cutting up your melt and pour soap into 1″ chunks. Microwave 2-3 chunks with a small piece of soap colorant about 15-20 seconds until just melted and pour into your mold. Repeat with all the colors you want in your soap and then let the soap cool and harden.
Once hard, remove the soap from the mold and use the cutters and knife to cut shapes, lines, and small confetti pieces out of the soap.
Start to assemble your pattern in the soap molds by laying in your shapes to create totally 80’s looks.
Once you have your patterns all layed out, melt the rest of the clear soap chunks in a clean glass measuring cup until just melted. Stir to melt any remaining pieces of soap. Then let cool slightly until a film starts to form on the top of the soap. Use the knife to remove this film and then spritz the soap in the molds with rubbing alcohol. Next, gently pour the clear soap into the molds until you cover the soap pattern pieces. Use your finger to press down on the larger shapes to remove any air bubbles that may have formed while pouring the soap. Then let the clear soap cool and harden for about an hour.
Once hard, you can remove your soap and it’s ready to use! If you want a fragrance in your soap, just add a few drops of soap fragrance to the melted clear soap. Just make sure that it is a non coloring fragrance so that your soap remains clear and doesn’t get cloudy or yellow looking.
Now if you don’t think these soaps are totally awesome, then I am not sure we can be friends anymore. But at least you now know how to make 80’s inspired soap bars! Happy soaping!
