If you give me enough time, I will eventually figure out a way to add confetti to everything. Trust me. It’s just going to happen. I have been craving a funfetti cake recently, and I finally gave in to the craving and made one. But of course I couldn’t just stop with funfetti cake. I found a way to turn my boxed funfetti cake into the most awesome DIY confetti cake with homemade sprinkles! Yes, confetti sprinkles! And I covered the cake with them and it is awesome and amazing and so, so good!
Isn’t this quite possibly the best cake ever?! And if you aren’t a baker, you can still make this cake using a store bought cake and this easy homemade sprinkles recipe. Promise!
Materials for DIY Confetti Cake with Homemade Sprinkles:
-Frosted cake (either homemade or store bought)
–Royal icing recipeĀ
–Food coloring
-Wax paper or parchment paper
-Spoon
-Small bowl for mixing up your colored icing
Begin by making your royal icing. Then add a scoop to a small bowl and add a few drops of food coloring. Mix to combine and then spread your icing in a thin layer on the wax paper. Repeat with all the colored icing. Then rinse out your bowl and add a new scoop of white icing to the bowl and color with food coloring. Spread it out on your wax paper. Then reapeat until you have used all your royal icing and made all the colors you want.
Once all your bits of icing are on the wax paper, let them sit out for a few hours to dry. When the icing has fully dried, you will be able to peel the icing from the wax paper.
You can keep the icing large like this for a giant confetti cake, or break them up into smaller bits for a confetti cake like I made.
Then just sprinkle them around your cake like regular sprinkles.
Yum! The ultimate confetti cake inside and out! Now watch me as I devour the whole cake. Hahaha. But seriously. I am obsessed with how these homemade sprinkles are so light and airy and delicate. Just perfectly colored flakes of edible confetti! Yay!
