Happy Friday! I had full intentions of posting this project a few days ago, but I am in the last minute stages of finishing up every blog project, craft, order, and sample for when I leave for Atlanta on Monday and the week sort of got away from me! But lucky you, because now you have a super fun project that you can try this weekend. These mini cactus cheese boards are the perfect summer time serving piece. Just throw on a few different types of cheese, some crackers, and some fruit and call it dinner!
Aren’t they simply adorable? I am so excited to have finally found a food safe paint for wood. Now I can created all sorts of different themed serving boards and cake stands!
Supplies:
- The Real Milk Paint Co. Milk Paint (in Spearmint, Lily Pad, Gypsy pink, and White)
- Ikea mini wood cutting boards or these similar ones from Amazon
- paint brushes
- little bowls to mix the paint in
- Soapstone sealer and wood wax
Begin by adding about 1 tablespoon of powdered paint to your bowls and then add in a few drops of water at a time and mix until you get a thick paint consistency.
Then simply paint the wood boards with the two shades of green paint (don’t mind the colors here! I tried to do a different design that didn’t quite work, so I changed to cacti instead.). Use the white paint to add cactus detailing like spines, thorns, and flowers.
Once the paint is dry and has absorbed into the wood, you can finish off the boards with a layer of soap stone sealer and wood wax to help protect the surface. This sealer is made for countertops and is completely food safe! And so is the paint for that matter since it is made using milk based casein and lime.
I am so obsessed with this paint! And the cute little cacti cheese boards aren’t bad either! What design would you paint on your cheese board?
