Hello! It’s been a while! Between corona lockdown, three kids at home, various family drama, and trying to work on orders from the shop and other behind the scenes projects, I have been just unable to get anything posted here on the blog. But that changes today, because I finally have a new project to share with you. This DIY colorful palm leaf wreath has been in the works for over a month when I started it at the end of May, but it has just been sitting around waiting for me to find time to finish and photograph it.
But I finally found the time this past weekend and I must say it is nice to create for fun again!
Now isn’t she a beauty? And it looks perfectly tropical on my studio door. I am especially fond of the white pattern detailing on some of the leaves. It definitely gives the wreath a fun pop of pattern and 80s vibes.
Materials to make your own DIY Colorful Palm Leaf Wreath:
- Faux palm and monsterra leaves
- Acrylic craft paint
- White oil based paint pen
- Wreath form
- Hot glue
- Paint brushes
The process is really straight forward. Just give the leaves a coat or two (mine required two coats) of paint and let dry. Then come back with a white paint pen and give some of them some squiggles, dots, and lines.
Once the leaves are made, arrange them on the wire wreath form and hot glue into place. Overlapping as you go to create a balanced circular wreath.
Once the glue is set, your DIY colorful palm leaf wreath is ready to hang indoors or out. For another fun take on a tropical wreath, check out this one I made two ways a few years ago.
Have you all been continuing to craft during everything happening in the world and at home, or has it fallen by the wayside for you to? Crafting is my happy place, so I am glad to finally be back in the swing of things! -Kara

I love this! I’ve been eyeing that painted plants trend for a while but didn’t have the money to buy a plant just to paint it. This is a great solution!

Love this palm leaf wreath. Just wondering how the painted leaves hold up in summer sun????

So far so good for me! I think you could definitely give them a coat of clear sealant if you wanted to make sure they stayed extra bright and colorful!
