I am obsessed with confetti! And my obsession isn’t limited to paper confetti, I want confetti in all shapes and sizes. And yes, that even means edible confetti. Lucky for me, I found a way to make DIY confetti sprinkles! And they are perfect for decorating all the baked goods. Just look how fun these sprinkles are!
Yum! I love how this sprinkles are in large and small pieces of different shapes. Just like real confetti! Follow along below for all the details on making your own confetti sprinkles.
DIY Confetti Sprinkles:
- Royal Icing (This is my favorite recipe)
- Food coloring
- Parchment paper
- Off set spatula
- Candy flavoring (this is optional, but you can get fruity flavors or cotton candy flavors to make your sprinkles even better tasting)
Begin by mixing up your royal icing (add your flavoring now if you wish), then separate into several bowls and color each portion a different color.
Once you have all your colors, use the off set spatula to smear brush stroke looking icing on your piece of parchment paper.
Now you will need to let the icing dry for several hours or over night.
Once dry, simply peel off the icing pieces and break into large chunks.
I wanted a mix of sizes for my edible sprinkle confetti, so I broke up several of the large sheets to get a good variety of sizes.
You can also mix a few colors of icing to create marbled sprinkles.
Now your sprinkles are ready to decorate cookies, cake, cupcakes, or even your morning pancakes!
Extra sprinkles can be stored in a zippered sandwich bag or plastic storage container for use later. And from what I have read, they will pretty much last forever as long as they don’t get wet. But I am sure you will eat them all sooner than that!
