Gallery Wall Wednesday – The Master Bedroom

filed under

Welcome to the 2nd installment of my Gallery Wall Wednesday feature. Today I’m showing the mini gallery wall above my bed in the master bedroom. This started off with an awesome abstract painting I found at HomeGoods.

I liked the white and silver frame, and the size was great, but I felt I needed to flesh it out a bit. It just looked too small above our bed. After looking online for some more art to add, I decided to just go ahead and make my own. I wanted something with a similar style, so I busted out my acrylic craft paint and a stiff paintbrush and went to work making small brush strokes on my large piece of art paper. In the end, I had something like this:
Then, I cut it into four pieces and framed them in square shadow box frames from Ikea. All that was left was to hang them next to the main print. I like how the four pieces I made all sort of flow together, yet vary in color. I think making it as one large piece of art and then dividing it really helped create the continuous feel.

The last thing about the wall, is it’s symmetry. Most of my gallery walls are very asymmetrical, but I really liked creating the mirror effect on this one. I decided to go against my usual inclination, and it ended up being one of my favorites in the house. Don’t be afraid to do something different! Sometimes the results will surprise you.
