I am not sure why, but lately I have been all about the fringe. Maybe because of the way it lays and gives texture and movement to a surface, or because it is so easy to make with felt. Whatever the reason, this is a love affair that ain’t goin’ nowhere! This weekend I took my love of felt fringe to a whole new level and crafted an amazing ombré fringe wall clock. For under $25. Yep, you better believe this thing was as good of a deal as it is pretty!

Just look at all that texture! And those shades of seafoam, mint, turquoise, and teal have me going all heart eyes. But don’t be intimidated, this clock is super easy to DIY.

The Supplies:

• 2 pieces each of of 9″ by 12″ felt in 6 different shades of blue (12 total pieces of felt). You can find a ton of colors here, or for a cheaper option, just head to your local craft store and see what they have and what colors you would like for your clock like I did for all but one of my colors.
• 18″ wood round
• Hot Glue
• Modern Clock Movement – The one in the link is the one I used, but be warned that the arms of this clock are extremely thin and delicate. 
• Gold Spray paint and shellac (optional)
• Scissors, screw, and wall mounting hardware

Begin by spray painting your clock movement gold if so desired. After my clock movement was painted gold, I sprayed it with a coat of shellac to help it maintain the fresh, fingerprint free surface.

 Now it is time to prepare your fringe. I simply cut the felt sheets lengthwise into 3 even strips and then cut 1/4″ fringe up from the bottom leaving about 1/2″ at the top uncut.

Now that you have your fringe all cut, start at the bottom of the wood round and use the hot glue to glue on your lightest color of felt fringe. Make sure to cut off the excess fringe at the sides long enough so that you can cover the sides of the wood round as well.

Then slowly work your way up layer by layer going from light blue to the darkest blue.

For the very top, I glued the uncut portion of a piece of fringe to the side of the wood round and then glued the fringe bits over and down on the top of the clock face.

Now that you wood round is all fringed up, go ahead and find the center of the clock and measure about 1.5″ up from the center and screw in your screw. This will be where your clock movement hangs. Before you hang your movement on the round, flip the round over and add your picture hanging hardware. Then it is simply a matter of hanging your clock on the wall and adding your clock movement.

Overall it is a pretty simple project, but such a show stopper. Of course I went with shades of blue for my clock, because I am all about the blue, but feel free to experiment with your favorite colors, or go monochromatic in white or black for a sleek, sophisticated look!
