My daughter’s 7th birthday is rapidly approaching, so along with planning her Sci-fi themed birthday party, my husband and I have been trying to come up with a few gift ideas for her (not including the phone or iPad she keeps asking for, because that is NOT happening). In addition to Sci-fi, she loves art, crafting, and color (I’m not sure where she gets that from! Ha!).

When I found out about the new Taylor Swift inspired greeting cards from PAPYRUS, the social expressions company, I knew they would be perfect for her and her pre-tween (that’s a thing right?) tastes. This new line of cards from PAPYRUS features fun, colorful embellishments like glitter and gems and are perfect for use as wall art in addition to gift giving. Because all the designs were amazing, I picked up several to give her throughout her birthday week. I even created a few colorful DIY clipboards she can use to display the cards on her bedroom gallery wall.

They turned out adorable! I think she will love getting one each day leading up to her birthday. These will go perfect with her  super-colorful bedroom decor (I know because I may have hung them up to snap a quick picture for you when she was in school). Good thing she doesn’t read my blog yet!
Keep reading for the simple instructions to make your own colorful greeting card clipboards!

The Supplies:

  • Plain mini clipboards (I found these 6″ by 9″ ones online)
  • Acrylic Craft paint in various colors (I used peach, light yellow, light blue, light pink, and dark pink for my boards and gold for the clip parts)
  • Paint brushes
  • Optional metallic vinyl cutouts (I used my vinyl cutter to make gold polka dots for some of the clipboards)
Begin by painting your clip boards with acrylic craft paint. Depending on the color of paint you use, two coats may be needed.

Once all your clipboards are painted and dry, use gold acrylic paint to paint the clips (or leave them silver if that’s more your speed; I’m a gold fiend right now).

Two coats of gold were necessary to completely cover the silver. Once the paint is dry, feel free to add a few metallic gold polka dots or other shapes like I did.
Now that your clipboards are done, go grab a few of the Taylor Swift collection of cards by PAPYRUS exclusively at Target (you can find them in the greeting card aisles) and get to gifting. With 44 different designs, there’s something for everyone and every occasion. With the decorated clipboards, you’re giving a card and a present at the same time!
