For one reason or another 2016 will go down as the year of the iced animal cookies. Every where you turned this year on the internet there were everything from ice animal cookie costumes for Halloween, to ice animal cookie cakes to, and even iced animal cookie brownies. But for one reason or another no one tried making their own and just stuck to the traditional pink and white sprinkle coated ones from the store. Well, in case you ever wanted to try to make your own in any color of the rainbow, I have you covered. Maybe even swap out the rainbow sprinkles for a few snowflakes and call them Christmas cookies.
Don’t you just love the rainbow of cookies? What I like best about these DIY animal cookies aside from
the pretty colors is that they don’t have that waxy after taste that
the originals do. Follow along below for the tutorial and recipe.
Colorful Iced Animal Cookies:
- Royal Icing (this is my favorite recipe)
- Circus Animal Cookies
- Food Coloring
- Rainbow sprinkles or snowflake sprinkles for a holiday version
- Metal cooling rack
Begin by separating your icing into several small bowls and use the food color to color each bowl a different color.
Dip the bottom of the animal cookies into the icing and lay on a piece of parchment paper to harden.
Once you have all the backs dipped and dried, flip the cookies over and dip the fronts then place on the cooling rack so that the extra icing can drip off.
While the cookies are still wet, top them with the sprinkles.
Once the royal icing has hardened, its time to enjoy your very own colorful iced animal cookies! Yay!
