Pizza Donuts + National Donut Day!

filed under

It’s here! National donut day is here! And it’s also the first day of summer for my kids, so a double whammy of free donuts (most donut shops give out one free donut today to celebrate) and no school means this summer is off to a great start. To celebrate, I decided to combine my families two favorite foods and create PIZZA DONUTS!

These pizza donuts are of the sweet variety. To make your own, just cover plain donuts with strawberry jam, shaved white chocolate (or white coconut shreds work too), and a few red candy melts made into small pepperoni shapes (I just melted the red candy melts in a bowl in the microwave and used a small ziplock bag to pipe out small circles onto a piece of parchment, then cooled them in the fridge).

Super sweet and tasty and oh so pizza like! I have to say I am a big fan of these sweet pizza donuts, but for dinner, you can make a savory version by frying biscuit dough and topping with actual tomato sauce, cheese, and pepperoni’s. and popping them under the broiler for a few seconds to melt the cheese. Sort of like a bagel bite but in donut form. One second thought, that might be pretty tasty too! Guess I know what I am trying for dinner tonight. Sweet pizza donuts for breakfast and savory ones for dinner!

Happy National Donut Day friends!
