After seeing the awesome crepe paper wall that my friend Chelsea made using crepe paper, I was obsessed! I even tried her technique out myself at my friends daughter’s birthday party I helped decorate. It was so simple and made such a big impact! Then I thought, why just stick with the abstract pattern? Why not use the same technique to spell out words for the ultimate typography party decor?! Not only were the results so perfect, but the most difficult part of the whole process was figuring out what phrase to use. But naturally I ended up going with a bar cart theme, and the words were just too perfect!
Supplies to make your own ruffled typography wall:
- Crepe paper streamers (I actually purchased high quality crepe paper folds from Paper Mart and cut them into strips. They have so many color options and the vibrancy of the paper is so much better than the traditional rolls you find at the party store.)
- Removable glue dots
- Pencil and Eraser
- Scissors
Begin by sketching out your words on the wall making sure to keep them lined up horizontally and spaced fairly wide apart. Next, take your crepe paper strips and using the glue dots to attach them to the wall over your sketched out letters.
You will want to start with one end and then add a glue dot, ruffle the paper up a bit and add another glue dot to secure the ruffles. Continue until all your words are complete. When you get to some letters you may need to cut the crepe paper and start in a new place. But basically you are simply overlaying the letters you sketched with crepe paper.
So simple! And such an impact! The best part about this project is that you can easily customize it however you like by using your own party colors and phrase like Happy Birthday, Congratulations, Merry and Bright, etc…
Now who’s ready for some boos?
