Oh yeah! It’s a totally 80’s Valentine’s Day party! Or should I say a “Total Eclipse of the Heart Party”?! As you may have seen, I have been obsessed with all things 80’s and Memphis design lately. So when I was asked to create the ultimate Valentine’s Day bar cart with Seagrams Escapes, I naturally had to go with an 80’s theme! To totally bring in the 80’s I created a DIY Memphis designed backdrop wall. This wall is made purely out of crepe paper and wrapping paper, and makes such a bold statement. Anyone else itching to throw a party yet?
Now let’s talk about that wall, shall we? As I mentioned it was made with crepe paper, wrapping paper, and a few pieces of large backdrop paper. To begin I used removable glue dots and a roll of black crepe paper to create the black and white lines on the wall in a few places. Next I cut out two of my newest Memphis wrapping paper sheets and a few solid colored fadeless paper sheets into triangles and circles of different sizes. I added these shapes to the wall with more glue dots overlapping them on each other and the lines. The final touch was to add a few small black dots cut from black crepe paper rolls.
Now lets talk about the bar cart. I kept the party cart fairly simple with a few flavors of Seagrams Escapes, glasses, heart drink stirrers, and snacks. The wall is such a focal point, I didn’t want the bar cart to compete with it. But my absolute favorite part of the bar cart? The cocktail cootie catcher!
Do you guys remember those paper fortune tellers from when we were kids? I thought it would be fun to make a cocktail cootie catcher to help all the guests pick one of the many flavors of Seagrams Escapes to drink at the party. Begin by picking a shape and spell out the shape while moving the paper back and forth. Then pick and number and move the paper that many times. Finally, pick another number to reveal which flavor of Seagrams Escapes to drink! So fun right?!
And thanks to my assistant Jen and her amazing calligraphy skills, I have this cootie catcher available as a download here. Just print and cut it out, then fold the corners in, turn over and fold the corners in again and puff up to use. So rad!
Now that you have seen how easy it is to throw your own totally 80’s Valentine’s Day party, throw on your oversized sleeveless crop sweater, tease those bangs, and blow up a few balloons and get ready to totally eclipse that heart!
