Colorful July Fourth Bash

If you have reading along with me for a while, you may know that while I love the traditional colors for a holiday, I also really love to rethink them for a more modern look. With the 4th of July coming up, I wanted to throw a colorful July fourth bash, but play around with the tradtional red, white, and blue and interject a few new colors into the mix. I settled on coral, pink, turquoise, navy, mint, and red. So all the traditional colors are there, but the addition of shades of pink and blue make the party oh so much more fun! At least I like to think so!

Once I settled on the color scheme, I threw together a few DIY’s, added in some silver sparkle in the form of disco balls, confetti, and paper fans, and we were ready to party. Below I am sharing a few tips to recreate the look for yourself.

The biggest statement piece for this party was the easy fringe backdrop. I have always wanted to try making one of these backdrops using cut up pieces of plastic table cloths. While there are several methods to making them, I went with the easiest for this backdrop. To make your own, simply fringe cut plastic rectangle table cloths leaving about 4″ at the top uncut. Then cut them into three even pieces. Lay out a long strip of packing tape and press the top of the table cloths onto the tape varying the colors as you go. Once they are all lined up, press another piece of packing tape over the top to secure them and use tape or thumb tacks to secure the strips to the wall.

A few other fun DIY’s included the felt ball drink picks and balloon filled cake stand. For the drink picks you simply need to hot glue felt balls onto the ends of wooden skewers or gold drink picks (you can find the ones I used here). Then use them to skewer your fruit garnish.

For the balloon filled cake stand, barely inflate 5″ balloons, tie, and then cut off the excess balloon knot piece. Fill the acrylic stand with the balloons and then carefully turn the acrylic stand over keeping all the balloons inside. Then it is ready for your cake! You can find a similar acrylic riser here.

The finishing touch for the perfect fourth of July bash? The cocktails of course! To play off the theme, I went with a martini version of the blue Hawaiian.

Blue Hawaiian Martini

-1 oz Light rum
-1 oz Pineapple juice
-1 oz Blue curracao
-1 oz Cream of coconut
-Cherries to garnish

Shake the first four ingredients over ice and then strain into your glasses and garnish with your cherries on your DIY felt ball skewers. I used these pretty pink coupes by Sugar and Cloth for the cocktails.
