How about a quick and easy DIY that is perfect for summer? These DIY ice cream magnets are the perfect summer treat for your fridge and are a fun craft for any age! Plus they are so simple to make that you will be addicted to trying your hand at other shaped magnets too. Who knew that just a little paint and plaster could make something so adorable?
Materials for DIY Ice Cream Magnets:
–Plaster of paris
–Acrylic paint
–Silicone Ice Cream mold (I found these in store at Joann)
–Strong magnets
–Hot glue
Begin by mixing up your plaster according to the package directions. You want the mixture to resemble pancake batter. Then fill the mold with the mixture and tap on the counter a few times to remove any air bubbles.
Use a spatula or popscile stick to scrape the back and make a flat surface. Then let set for 30 minutes. Once set, remove the pieces from the mold. As you can see, Joann has several different molds that are all super cute!
Once unmolded, paint the ice cream with your acrylic paint and let dry. I found that DecoArt Americana in Yellow Ochre made the perfect golden waffle cone and popsicle stick color. Then glue a magnet to the back of the plaster piece and they are ready to use!
Yay! Who else is ready for summer and swimming, BBQ’s, and all the ice cream you can eat?! I usually am not one to keep magnets on my fridge, but these are so cute I might just make an exception. At the very least, I know I will use them to hold up all my summer inspiration images for my office! Now go make yourself a set of these DIY ice cream magnets and bask in all the fun that summer has to offer!
