I have loved throwing themed birthday parties way before I started blogging about them. I think my love for party planning started in high school when I was put in charge of decorating for all our school dances. I was able to plan the theme, order decorations, and set it all up just the way I envisioned. Even now, some (*cough*) 17 years later I still love throwing a party on theme. This DIY tropical spa birthday party theme was inspired by one of my go-to gifts for birthdays, Greetabl. If you have never heard of Greetabl, they are the people behind making giving a gift even easier than you ever thought possible. All you have to do is pick out a pattern, customize it by adding a few photos and a message, and choose the perfect small gift. Then with a few clicks, your gift is on its way to the recipient. Easy!
But instead of just giving this gift, I thought it would be fun to plan a whole party around the fun patterns and gifts that they have available for you to choose for your Greetabl. The palm leaf pattern leapt out at me, and I loved all the pampering gifts that they had available to choose from like a facial mask and nail polish. So I picked a few of my favorites, and sent out the Greetabls as the invite to the birthday girl and guests for the tropical spa birthday party with a few pictures and note to hint at the party theme. Then it was time to decorate!
To play off the palm leaf pattern of the Greetabl, I cut out giant banana leaves from green colored fadeless paper rolls and used a sharpie to draw on the leaf veins. Then I used removeable glue dots to attach them to the wall for a fun backdrop. Next, I used this tutorial to create a smaller palm leaf from polymer clay to use as a drink marker for the cocktail glasses. For the rest of the food, I just created a grazing plate full of fruit, crackers, and cookies.
Now of course, the party wouldn’t be complete without a little activity. Since this was a spa party, that meant all things pampering like bath salts, facials, and bath fizzes. I also had guests bring along the gift they received in their invite so everyone could try it out at the party.
As a fun party favor, I provided gold tins, colored bath fizz, and colored epsom salts for guests to make their own bath soak mixture to take home. To make your own, just add a bit of food coloring to epsom salts and mix until colored. Then pour into individual dishes for guests to create their own colorful mixture. For the bath fizz, mix 1 cup baking soda, 1/2 cup corn starch, 1/2 cup epsom salts, 1/2 cup citric acid, 2 tablespoons coconut oil, 1 tsp water to create a mixture. Then separate into bowls and dye each part with food coloring. Pour into a dish with a spoon for guests to add to their bath soak.
We had such a fun time pampering ourselves and the birthday girl. Plus, every guest got to walk away with a few pictures from their Greetabl, a gift, and a party favor bath soak. But, even if you aren’t up for throwing a full on party for your friend’s birthday, you can still give the gift of a Greetabl with a message and gift just perfect for them! And, my friends over at Greetabl are making it even easier for you to give a gift to their birthday guy or girl in your life by offering 15% off your order with coupon code, kailochic.
