Hello! I am so excited about today’s post. I found a way to incorporate my favorite 80’s inspired Memphis design group type patterns into the holidays! And almost all of the gift wrap that you see here is from my collection that you can shop here. Oh yeah! Also, I created a fun printable bow template that you can print out to make your own grid and neon bows! Totally rad, right?! These DIY 80’s inspired gift wrapping ideas are sure to make everyone stop in their tracks!
First up, lets talk about the gift wrap. I used a combination of the solid color gift wrap and two of the memphis pattern ones I designed. The only gift wrap that you see that isn’t part of my colleciton is the black and white stripe one which I found at the craft store and is pretty basic and should be easy to find.
For the peach colored gift, I cut out pieces of black adhesive vinyl to create a funky 80’s pattern on the solid gift wrap. And for the pink color block and stripe box, I just taped a piece of black and white stripe wrapping paper around the solid pink gift wrapped box.
Now to dress up the gifts, I added everything from striped ribbon to DIY grid and neon bows to handpainted 80’s inspired ornaments. I actually used my Glowforge to cut out the ornaments and have a fun tutorial on those coming soon! Promise! But you can also find paper mache and mdf wood blank oranaments at the craft store that you can use to paint your own 80’s inspired patterns on.
But let’s get to what you really want to know! Those bows, right?!
Materials for DIY 80’s Inspired Gift Wrapping Ideas:
Begin by printing out the printable and cuting out all the shapes.
Then, fold the ends of the grid patterned piece under and tape to create the rounded bow edges. Then use double sided tape to tape the grid bow to the ribbon tail section. The final step is to tape the thin colored strip around the middle of the bow and secure it in the back.
That’s it! So simple and so fun! Once your bows are made, you can tape or glue them onto all your gifts.
Now that is one colorful and unique set of 80’s inspired holiday gift wrapping ideas if I do say so myself! Which gift is your favorite?!
