What’s better at Halloween than a cauldron full of sweet treats? How about a colorful Halloween-patterned cauldron full of candy? These DIY Colorful patterend cauldron candy buckets are perfect for little witches or wizards to take trick-or-treating, but they’re also a fun way to dole out the sweets if you’re staying in on Halloween night. Some craft paint and adhesive vinyl are all you need to turn these plain, black cauldrons into magical, patterned candy collectors.
Supplies needed to make your own colorful cauldron craft:
- Plastic Cauldrons
- Acrylic Craft Paint
- Adhesive Vinyl
- Vinyl Cutting Machine (optional, but you will need it for the more complex shapes like the ghosts and bats)
Begin by painting your cauldrons with acrylic craft paint. Give them a good solid base coat and then let dry. Repeat with a second and third coat of paint if needed. The white took a few coats, but the blue only took two for me. Or, if you wish, you can leave a few black and just add the vinyl cutouts to the cauldrons.
Once your cauldrons are painted and dry, it’s time to cut out the vinyl. Don’t have a cutting machine like a Cricut or Silhouette? You can use scissors or an X-acto knife to cut out triangles, circles, and squiggles from the vinyl. After your shapes are cut, simply place them like stickers onto the cauldrons to make your colorful patterns.
If you do have a cutting machine, you can use this, this, and this download to create a cut file to cut your own ghosts, bats, and shapes from different colors of vinyl.
Once you have the images cut (I tried to keep all my images sizes to no bigger than 2″), simply peel them off the backing paper and stick them to the cauldrons like stickers. Once your patterns are complete, fill the buckets with candy for the trick-or-treaters or hand them to your kids and send them on their way to get all the loot.
You can even set a big bowl in these cauldrons and fill them with snacks for a Halloween party! The possibilities and custom patterns you can make on these DIY colorful patterned cauldron candy buckets are endless!
