If you follow me on Instagram, you might have seen that I recently got my hands on the Cricut Joy. It is a vinyl cutting machine, but mini. It only cuts up to 4.5″ wide, but can cut really long lengths (up to 20′ repeating) with no mat needed. I love that aspect of it! I always hate dealing with the mats and am perfectly cool getting the smart vinyl if it means I don’t have to use the mat. But if you want to use your old vinyl or cardstock, the machine does come with an optional mat.
Anyway! I have been having so much fun creating small and large projects around my home and studio My latest project are these DIY colorful cactus glasses with the Cricut Joy. I used one combo pack of 5 different colors of permanent adhesive vinyl and my Cricut Joy to quickly cut and apply the cactus decals to a set of cocktail glasses and a carafe from IKEA.
Materials to make your own DIY Colorful Cactus Glasses with the Cricut Joy:
- Sampler pack of smart vinyl for the Cricut Joy in Hydrangea
- Cricut Joy (or other vinly cutting machine)
- Glases and pitcher or carafe
- Transfer tape (optional)
- This cut file
The Cricut Joy makes it easy to cut through their design space. Just upload the file above into the design space and choose a cut file. The resize as needed to fit your glasses. Then simply load in your vinyl (the machine bluetooths to your computer or phone) and hit cut.
Once cut, You can use transfer tape to apply them to your glasses or simply peel them off and apply them like a large sticker to your glasses over lapping the small ones onto the large ones.
Place the colorful cacti all around your glasses and carafe and then enjoy a margarita for me!
This project took me only about 10 minutes to complete and I used just the one combo pack of vinyl for 4 glasses and 1 carafe. So the perfect simple and quick project for an afternoon activity!
