Pumpkin crafts are some of my all-time favorite. There’s no limit to the creativity that can go into using these beautiful gourds to bring that fall feel into our homes at this time of year. Not only are these sparkly tulle pumpkins totally magical, but they’re really simple to make. And they can take you from early fall all the way through Thanksgiving (just add some bats during October!). Head over here to see the full DIY video.
It may seem a little tricky at first, but once you get the hang of it you can knock out a few colorful tulle pumpkins in no time. Here’s how.
Supplies:
- Small faux pumpkins
- Sparkly tulle in a few colors (enough to use a few layers to cover each pumpkin)
- Spray paint or acrylic paint to match the colors of your tulle
- Dowel or wooden spoon
- Gold spray paint or acrylic paint
Instructions:
Step 1: Remove the stem from your faux pumpkins, and paint the pumpkins in matching colors to your tulle to get a fully saturated look.
Step 2: Use a wooden spoon handle or dowel rod to press a small hole into the foam pumpkin and make space for the excess tulle.
Step 3: Cut your tulle in a circle (you will want at least 4-5 layers) big enough that the ends can reach up to the top of the pumpkin and have an inch or so excess at the top.
Step 4: Gather and bring the tulle to the top of the pumpkin, using the dowel or a spoon handle to press the tulle into the hole you made where the stem was. Work your way around the pumpkin until all the tulle is secure. (The above-linked video can help if you’re having trouble visualizing this part.)
Step 5: Paint your stem gold (optional), and place it back on the pumpkin. You may want to add hot glue to secure it.
