I have whole board on Pinterest solely dedicated to color inspiration. I like to look through the photos when I am feeling uninspired to hopefully spark some ideas. This weekend, as I was scrolling through, I came across one image of a pink and blue gradient that really stood out to me. So I took that color inspiration and created my own tall gradient planter based on a shape design I had seen at West Elm a month or so ago. I love how the planter turned out and I love even more how inspiration really is everywhere. A shape from here and colors from there and boom, an awesome DIY idea!
Just look at that color gradient! Any guesses what I used to create the planter? Follow along below for the details.
- Ceramic Bowl (I got mine at World Market for $3.99)
- Drinking Glass (I got mine at World Market for $1.99)
- Spray paint in 3-4 colors (I used Montana Gold in Pink Pink, Lychee, Shrimp, Malachite, and Reef)
- Industrial Strength adhesive like E600, Power Tac, or Glass epoxy
Begin by taking your bowl and glass outside and turn them upside down. Use your spray paint to spray layers around the bowl and cup to create a gradient look. Once dry, use the adhesive or epoxy to glue the bottom of the cup to the bottom of the bowl. Let set overnight.
Once set, you can fill your planter with succulent/cactus mix potting soil and any succulents or cacti you have.
You can even create a whole assortment of planters using different colors and different size bowls and cups for an awesome collection for your shelf or mantel. Now that I have made this one, I have a few other ideas of how to use the same technique for even different results. I can’t wait to try them and let you know how they turn out!
