For whatever reason, I am absolutely in love with these paper bats this year. It is so fun to just place them everywhere! You may remember that I have them in and around my paper fans that I made and perched on a branch on my mantel here, but I also put some up on my built-ins and on the light fixture. They are such a inexpensive way to add Halloween style to almost any surface!
Next, the detail shots of the built-in shelves. One easy thing that I like to do is swap out photos in my picture frames to ones that suit the holiday. For Halloween, I use photos of the family in our costumes from various Halloween parties and of course Halloween night from years past.
Another little trick I used was cutting some black adhesive vinyl into Jack O’ Lantern face pieces and sticking them on one of my vases that is always here on my shelves to create a fun faux pumpkin.
Above I used some foam craft bats and pipe cleaners to make a bat bouquet! This is a simple project that would be fun to do with the kids. Another fun project for the kids to help with is to make abstract Halloween art. I just gave my daughter some paint in orange, black, and (s)lime green and had her paint what ever she wanted. Once it was dry I put it in the coordinating photo frame and I have some fun kid art to add to my shelves.

Other crafts like this little air dry clay skull that my husband made and the Frankenstein head, pumpkins, and bat kids crafts are also displayed proudly on our Halloween shelves. Then rest of the pieces (like the wood words and signs) are from the Target dollar spot.
And so that it didn’t feel completely left out, I also decorated my day bed for Halloween! It usually houses black and white pillows anyway, so I just added a few small Halloween throw pillows that I also picked up in the dollar spot as well as my DIY Rorschach pillows.
I love all the little details in this space, because it really helps make it feel like Halloween in here. My favorite part has to be the bats on the light fixture. What is yours?
