This is one of those DIY’s were I am a little late to the game. I had this idea a few weeks ago, but by the time I actually made it and photographed it, a little co-thinking occurred and I saw a few different macrame pumpkin planters pop up in my feed. But in case you missed those, I figured I would still share my take on this new macrame/hanging pumpkin trend.
Isn’t it pretty? And I personally love the pink pumpkin with the greenery, but you can easily make this with a white or orange pumpkin, or even take the black pumpkin approach like Vicki Howell and her crochet hanging spider web pumpkin. The best part about this one is that it is super quick. As in I didn’t even make the macrame planter, so I know you can replicate this!
Supplies:
- Macrame Plant Hanger
- Medium faux pumpkin
- Pink spray paint
- Hanging greenery (faux or real – mine’s faux! and I got this stem at Joann stores)
- Utility knife
Begin by spray painting your pumpkin pink (or any color you like!). Once the paint is dry, use the utility knife to cut open the top of the pumpkin. If you are using faux greenery, you might be able to get away with just cutting a small opening. For a real plant, cut a 4-6″ opening in the top of the pumpkin. Fill the pumpkin with your dirt mixed with perlite (to help lighten it a bit) and then add your plant.
The final step is to place your pumpkin the macrame plant hanger and hang it up. How cute would a large display of these hanging planters be filled with all different colors and sizes of pumpkins? I could just see them hanging up above a mantel or a credenza instead of art!
Well, I hope you like my take on this new trend and be sure to search for more macrame pumpkin ideas to get your creative juices flowing on how you could make your own that fits in perfectly with your home. xoxo – Kara
