DIY Gradient Easter Eggs

filed under

Obviously I had to bring a little gradient action to Easter this year. I was actually quite surprised that these hadn’t been done yet. Sure, there are ombre dip dyed eggs, but no one has spray painted plastic Easter eggs in gradient patterns! And oh my goodness did they turn out amazingly! I just love the color mixing! Since these DIY gradient Easter eggs are spray painted, you may not want to put candy (unless it is wrapped) in these eggs, but they look super cute sitting on a shelf or mantel or as a vase filler.

Materials for DIY Gradient Easter Eggs:

-Spray paint in at least 3 colors (I made several different color combos using Montana gold spray paint in malachite light, yellow submarine, lychee, pink pink, viola, crocus, cherry blossom, shrimp, strawberry, malachite, and frozen strawberry)
Plastic Easter eggs
-Spray primer like Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3DIY Gradient Easter Eggs

Begin by spray painting your eggs with the spray primer. This will let the colored spray paint adhere better to the plastic eggs. If you choose to use paper mache eggs or paper covered foam eggs, you can skip this step.

Once the primer is dry, just add bursts of color to each egg varying the placement. Let the top dry fully and then flip the eggs over and spray the other side. With this type of gradient painting, it really is as simple as bursting the paint onto the eggs in small areas. Keep layering until you have the look you want. Once dry your DIY gradient Easter eggs can be filled with toys or displayed in a bowl. You can even use small bits of sticky tack to get them to sit upright on a shelf or mantel!

Now I am curious if you could achieve the same look on actual eggs by using Wilton spray food coloring? It looks like another project is in my future! Hahaha!
