It’s that time! Time to reveal the whole new Kailo Chic studio! If you have been following along on Instagram, that you have likely seen peeks of the new studio here and there, but I wanted to compile all the photos of it here in one place. I also want to share with you how everything is laid out, and a little bit about why I chose to use Velux skylights in the space.
Kailo Chic Studio Lighting
Just look at that natural light that fills the studio! And that right there is the number one reason that I chose to build a studio in the backyard and why I just had to have Velux skylights installed in the space. Because of all the natural light that I knew they would bring in. They bring in so much natural light that it makes styling and taking bright, crisp photos a breeze! Because of the size of the studio, I went with two skylights with remote controlled solar powered diffusing shades. So that I can diffuse the sunlight when it is directly above the studio and open them again once the sun is to the side. It makes the perfect bright glow in the studio and the sun light bounces off the white walls to make the perfect shadow free photography studio.
It’s like I now work inside a giant light box and I couldn’t love it more!
I mean, it’s perfection, is it not?!
Work Spaces
The second reason for the studio was to finally get all the crafting supplies and props out of my house and into a space that I could make a mess and not have to live in it all the time. Yes, I could have tried to find studio space here in Austin, but with zero commute time, a space built to be exactly what I need, and a home equity loan that makes my payments 1/4 of what they would be to rent anything here in Austin, well. Why would I not build?!
So when you come in the Kailo Chic studio, you see the huge blank wall with the couch in front of you. This is the space that I use to style photos (hence no windows). It’s is a big blank canvas that I can’t wait to use for all my holiday set ups.
To the left when you walk in is our crafting space. Here I installed Ikea shelves, desks, and drawers. These give me a ton of organization and spaces to ALL THE CRAFT SUPPLIES!
The right side belongs to my assistant and the left side is my side. In the middle is a table with my Glowforge. It’s positioned so that I can vent it out the window when I use it.
Prop Space
On the right side of the studio is my prop storage area. For now, it’s just filled with Ikea shelving I used to have in our guest room that I used to store my props. I hope to add custom shelving all the way to the ceiling at some point. That way it doesn’t feel too cramped in here and I can see all my props and access them easily.
Space for Styling
The credenza and painted wall shared a few posts ago are also on this right side. It is just another space that I can style for photos.
Behind that door is the bathroom which is nothing special yet. I’ll be sure to share with you as soon as I paint or wallpaper the space and have it finished. It’s just white walls with no styling currently!
So that’s it! You have now seen the new Kailo Chic studio in all it’s sunlight filled glory! I’ll share the front once it cools off, the porch gets cleaned, and grass grows in our yard again!
I hope you liked taking a peek around the space and getting to see where all the crafting magic happens! Tell me, what is your favorite spot?
For those of you in Austin looking to build, I used HayLou Builders. I could not be more happy with their work and results!

Just found your website (from a Michael’s ad to your Insta, then to your website) — wondering where the plain white bins/baskets on your shelves are from…?
