Happy October! I have been sharing all sorts of Halloween crafts and projects with you the last few weeks, but now that it is October, I feel that I am finally in the clear to go Halloween crazy. These DIY roving covered spider web pumpkins are one of those creations that just happens to come together from materials I had laying around.

I know I have talked before about how sometimes I don’t have an idea for a project before hand, but see two items laying on my desk from previous projects and I just think “hey, those would be cool together”. Well, that is exactly what happened here! I ave roving on my desk from a wreath I was working on, and then realized, that it kind of looked like spider webs. So I draped some on a pumpkin and it looked amazing! Just look how fluffy and awesome they look!

Now if spider webs and Halloween aren’t your thing, these roving covered pumpkins would still be pretty for fall too! Maybe use a few muted pinks, creams, and grays and you have a whole different cozy fall look.

Materials to make your own DIY Roving Covered Spider Web Pumpkins:

• Wool roving (I bought mine off Etsy)
• Hot glue
• Faux pumpkins
• Plastic spiders (optional for halloween)
• Gold paint pen (optional for the stems)

Begin by cutting sections of roving long enough to go from the stem to the base of the pumpkin. Depending on the size of your pumpkin, you will need 4-10 sections of roving. For each of my pumpkins I used between 1/2 ounce and 2 ounces of roving.

Next, take the roving sections and spread it out a bit to loosen the fibers and create the stringy spider web look. Then hot glue the roving to the pumpkin starting at the top by the stem and working your way down to the under side of the pumpkin.

Continue working your way around the pumpkin gluing on more panels until you cover the pumpkin. Then use the gold paint pen to paint the stem and place a few spiders in the “web”.
