Follow along below for the full tutorial on how I made both the cake plate and faux orb vase using the bowls from the new summer collection by Oh Joy for Target.
The Supplies for the Faux Orb Vase:
- 2 Bowls from the new Oh Joy collection
- Industrial strength adhesive like E6000 or Power Tac
- Faux Flowers
This vase is not a real vase in the traditional sense of the word, but it sure does look like one. The vase doesn’t actually have a hole for flowers, but instead faux flowers are glued to the top to give the appearance of a real vase. You will simply put your industrial strength glue around the edge of one bowl and then turn the other bowl upside down on top of the first bowl. Let the glue set to cure overnight. Now either get a large faux flower or several small ones and glue them on the top of your new vase. Viola! The perfect unique centerpiece to coordinate with the taller cylindrical Oh Joy vases.
- 2 Bowls from the Oh Joy Collection
- White ceramic plate
- Acrylic multi-surface paint in Blue and Gold
- Industrial strength adhesive such as Power Tac
- Paintbrush
Begin by cleaning the bottom of the plate with alcohol, then painting the bottom of the plate with the coordinating color paint. Once dry, flip the plate over and use the gold paint to paint the top edge of plate.
Once the plate is painted, you can either let it cure for 21 days or place in a cool oven, heat to 300°F, bake for 30 minutes, then turn off the oven and let cool. Once the paint has cured, use your industrial adhesive to attach the two bowls together, then glue the plate on the top. Let the glue cure overnight.
Once dry, you have the perfect cake plate with pretty printed orb bottom to display all your treats. I love that I now have two more pieces that I can add to all my other goodies. I think I may need to DIY a few napkins and candle holders that coordinate as well. Then I can create a whole party table with all my purchased and DIY pieces.

Silly question, but is the glue permanent? Can you deconstruct the case and use again as bowls later?

Yes, this glue is permanent. But if you are looking for a temporary solution, you can just use hot glue to attach them. Then they can be peeled apart and the glue removed.
