Decorate It – Summer Your Home

filed under

Happy Summer! Yesterday marked the first official day of summer. Although as summer weather goes, we here in central Texas have been feeling the heat for at least a month or more. Today is all about embracing the summer and changing up your decor for the season. Just as you would add to your decor for holidays such as Christmas, Halloween, and Easter, why not summer your home as well? For me summer is all about bright color, flowers, and the beach. I use all of these to create a fun summer feel in my home decor.

We will start off in the bedroom. One simple way to summer you bedroom is to change out the throw pillows. I recently purchased these fun pillows on clearance at Target (for only $12.50 each!). Look at all the fun summer vibes they emit! I also added a fun greenish yellow throw that I had to the bottom of the bed for another pop of color. Another quick change are the small decorations on the night stands.

On one side I put some found wood pieces that remind me of driftwood and the beach along with a brass crab that usually hangs out in my bathroom.

On the other side are some pretty faux orchids in a summer orange bucket vase, an ahoy sign picked up in the Target dollar spot, some magazines with fun summer colors on the front, and a light paper shade lamp. I was also able to find this small mint rug at Home Goods for quite the deal, and it adds a nice summer brightness to the dark wood floors.

As you can see from the pre-summerfication photos of this room here, it is quite the change to some more summer vibes and all the it required was rearranging some accessories and adding some new pillows.

Another great way to add summer decor to your home is to bring in flowers. Flowers are great in any season, but choosing ones that are only available in summer will help lend that summery air to your decor. Here I have some pretty pink peonies I picked up at the grocery store on my last trip. I love the lightness they bring to this shelf arrangement of design books.

If you have built ins or shelves for displaying photos or decor items, rearranging them into colorful summer collections or themes is another great way to add a bit of summer to your home. Just check out these fun shelf styling options.

In your kitchen, why not add some fun fruit stamped towels like these pineapple ones I made? Get the details here.

Or a fun new doormat at your front door can help set the summer tone before you even get inside. I found this little lovely at Homegoods.

And finally, a fun colorful mantle is an easy way to summer your home. A simple mirror switch (isn’t this wavy mirror I found at Home Goods the perfect summer mirror?) and a few colorful decor pieces and you have a summery mantle to stare at cheerfully all summer long.

Just remember, all it takes is adding color, flowers or greenery, and some beachy vibes (like the pillows or crab) to get an easy summer makeover for your home.
