Craft It – A Color Blocked Monogram Necklace

filed under

If you remember a few weeks ago I found some fun bamboo letters at Michael’s for a few bucks and I proceeded to turn them into color blocked cupcake picks. You can read more about that here! At that time, my daughter was painting the letters of her name for the gallery wall in her bedroom and suggested I make some of the letters into necklaces. She is her mothers child no doubt, but I thought it was such a fun idea! So, here I am bringing you the super simple colorblocked monogram necklace tutorial.

The process to make these super fun chunky necklaces is not much different than the cupcake picks. Simply

tape off a portion of the letter and use acrylic craft paint to paint the untaped portion of the letter. Let dry and then remove the tape.

Once you have your letter painted to your liking, you will need to glue a jewelry hook on the back. You can find these in any of the major craft stores jewelry departments. I don’t know the proper name for them, but they come in different sizes and shapes. Basically you just need a flat piece to glue your letter to and a loop at the end so that you can attach your chain. Better pick up some fun chunky chain while you are there too!

Now glue your back piece to the letter using jewelry and metal glue.

Once the glue has dried, use pliers to attach your chain and you are all set.

I am not usually a chunky necklace girl, but I thought these color blocked ones were fun and a great addition to my summer wardrobe. Now to make some for my friends!
