I have been on a bit of a yarn kick lately in case you haven’t noticed. I blame it on the winter weather. But after spending an arm and a leg on colorful new yarn, I had to figure out a use for it! These DIY yarn ball keychain valentines are perfect to give as little gifts for Valentine’s Day, but they are also a cut project to use up scraps of yarn to turn into gifts for your friends as well. Pair them with the free downloadable valentine printable and you are ready to give the gift of yarn this Valentine’s day.
I mean, who doesn’t love a good yarn craft?!
Materials for DIY Yarn Ball Keychain Valentines:
- Colorful yarn
- 4cm felt ball (optional, but makes the wrapping process so much easier and quicker)
- Hot glue gun
- Keychain ring
- Wool you be mine valentine printable
Begin by wrapping the yarn around the felt ball until you have covered every bit of the felt ball and no more shows through. Then use a dab of hot glue to secure the end of the yarn to the ball and cut off the yarn tail at about 6″ long.
Next, simply, tie the yarn tail around the keychain ring to form your wool yarn ball keychain. So simple!
You can stop here if you just want to make these for yourself or your friends for any time of the year, but if you are going the Valentine route, just print out the Valentine template and cut out the valentines. Then punch two small holes at the top of the Valentine and thread the yarn tail through and use a piece of tape to secure it to the paper valentine.
Boom! Done! Super cute keychains for your kid’s classmates backpacks or for your keys if you are a yarn lover like me! xo. Kara
