The warmer temperatures of Spring are officiallly here and I am so ready for it! Spring time to me means all the flowers, bright colors, and time spent outdoors. When I first saw these paper mache cacti, I just knew that they would make the perfect DIY colorful cacti faux flower vases for my spring mantel. If this cactus project doesn’t shout springtime, I don’t know what does!
Supplies to make these DIY colorful faux cacti flower vases:
- Paper Mache Cacti
- Acrylic Craft Paint
- Small White Rocks (optional)
- Paint Brush
- Craft Knife
- Faux Flowers
Begin by painting your paper mache cacti. I went with a few shades of green for the cacti for variation and then painted the pots in coordinating pinks and yellows.
Once painted, use a craft knife to cut a small hole in the top of one part of each cacti. This is what you will use to hold your faux flower blooms.
No need for it to look nice since the flowers will cover the hole.
The final optional step is to use glue (regular white glue works fine) to glue in a few white rocks in the top of the planter.
Are they not the cutest little cacti vases you ever did see?!
I toyed around with the idea of using a gold paint pen to add a little gold touch to my cactus project with either patterns on the “planter” portion or cacti pricks on the cacti themselves, but decided against it at the last minute.
However I think a touch of gold never hurts, so if you feel so inclined, gild up your own cactus project to your hearts content.
