You may have seen this DIY colorful tree forest Christmas decor tucked away in the images I shared on Friday of my collection launch. I even had a few of you ask if it was something I was selling. While it isn’t a part of the Kailo Chic Christmas collection, it is a very easy DIY project. And if you can belive it, it is actually an IKEA hack! Yes, Ikea hacks can be fore the holidays too! Again, while the project is really just painting something from IKEA, it is amazing how sometimes that is all it takes to completely transform something you would normally just pass by in the store into something you just have to have. Right?
Now if you have a Glowforge laser cutter you can probably recreate this little scene pretty easily too. For those of you who don’t, however, all you need is some paint (I prefer spray paint like Montana Gold because it is quick and gives a smooth finish) and the tree piece from IKEA.
Materials to make your own DIY Colorful Tree Forest Christmas Decor:
- IKEA Strala Tree Forest
- Montana Gold spray paint (acrylic paint works too, but may require a few coats of paint)
To make, simply paint the trees an assortment of colors. I used Montana Gold in Lychee, Strawberry, Yolk, Malachite, Crocus, Poison, Pink Pink, Frosted Strawberry, and Malachite Dark.
Once the trees were painted and dry, I slid them into the light up wood base that came with them. And I was done! So easy and simple, but so pretty with all the colors!
Do you prefer it white like it came, or with all the colors like me? Normally I would have just walked right by this white tree forest, but when it’s all colorful, it stops me in my tracks!
