DIY Ribbon Candy Garland

This post, DIY ribbon candy garland, is sponsored by Command™ Brand from 3M and their new Command® Adjustables™ Products. Thank you for supporting the brands that keep the crafts coming!

I love Christmas time and especially love decorating my mantel and tree for the holiday. Every year I try to come up with a new theme (or 3!) to use to decorate my home. This year, I have been obsessed with the magic of one particularly famous Christmas ballet. So, I set out to create a tree and mantel inspired by my favorite realm of enchantment that’s nothing short of sweet.

The DIY ribbon candy garland I created is simple to recreate yourself and even easier to hang thanks to the power of the new Command® Adjustables™ Products. The Command® Adjustables™ clips and hooks let you not only hang your garlands from the wall or mantel with no damage but can actually be repositioned up to 3 times in the first 20 minutes! That means getting the perfect swag and positions for all the felt garlands!

As you can see, pink, candy, and glitter are big components to the Christmas decorations! Let’s talk about how you can recreate the ribbon candy garland, then we will go into the method that I use to hang all my garlands over my mantel for the perfect look!

Materials to make your own DIY RIbbon Candy Garland:

  • Felt in an assortment of pinks, purples, and mint
  • Hot glue
  • Scissors
  • Chunky irridescent glitter paint
  • Paintbrush
  • Baker’s twine
  • Upholstery needle
  • Command® Adjustables™ Clips
  • Candy themed felt balls (optional)

Begin by cutting your felt into strips approximately 2.5″ wide by 11″ long.

Next, accordian fold the strips to create the ribbon candy look, then hot glue the folds and ends together.

Once the glue is set, use a paintbrush to paint the glitter paint over the felt, then let dry. Next, thread the baker’s twine on the needle and sew the the pieces of felt candy on the twine.

Once all the pieces are sewn on and the garland is the length you want it, cut the ends of the twine and tie them in loops.

How to Hang Felt Garlands

Now comes to the fun part! Hanging your new garland! This is where the magic of Command® Adjustables™ Products comes in. I like to begin by placing the Command® Adjustables™ Clips on the mantel where I think I want the garlands to go. Next, I hang up the garlands to get an idea of placement. For these decorations, I layered a gold star ribbon, a Oh What Fun garland cut from glitter card stock, and the ribbon candy garland.

You can see above my first pass at hanging the garlands left too much space between the Oh What Fun and the stars, and too little between it and the candy garland. So, then I gently removed the hook by peeling upwards and repositioned the hook to adjust the swag of the garlands.

But I still wasn’t happy because while the spacing is even, it is too far apart for my liking. So, one more attempt and repositioning the Command® Adjustables™ Clips and I was able to get the perfect, even spacing between the garlands.

Not only do these clips allow you to reposition up to 3 times in 20 minutes, but they don’t lose strength while doing it. These garlands have been hanging strong for 7+ days now. Plus, they are so slim, they are almost invisible hanging on my mantel.

I should also mention that these are the same clips that I use for my balloon installations to get the perfect drape of each garland. They really are perfect for hanging all your party and holiday decorations! Now tell me, where will you hang your felt ribbon garland?

I found some on Etsy. Benzie Design also has a good selection.
