If you couldn’t tell by now, I love to play with felt and roving to create my own felt creations. But felting from roving can take forever! Luckily these DIY felt fruit drink stirrers don’t take long to make since they are made by modifing premade felt balls. Aren’t they the perfect addition to a fruity cocktail or glass of lemonade?

Materials to make your own DIY Felt Fruit Drink Stirrers:

• 1″ Felt balls in fruity colors like red, pink, orange, yellow, and green
• Scissors
• Green and white roving (optional for the watermelon, strawberry, and kiwi)
• Felting needle
• small twig
• Green felt sheet
• Hot glue
• Acrylic drink stirrers
• Black fine point marker

Instructions:

Begin by creating all your fruit shapes. Some shapes like the orange, lemon, grapefruit, cherries, and lime, simply require you to cut out the green felt sheet into leaf shapes and cherry stems and hot glue them on to the felt ball. For the lemons and limes, roll the felt ball between your palms to squish it into an oblong shape first before gluing on the mini twig stem and felt leaf.

For the watermelon, cut the felt ball in half with your scissors and use the green roving to wrap the felt ball half. Gently prick the roving with the felting needle to felt it onto the red felt ball to create the watermelon rind. Once attached, use the black marker to add the seeds.

Similarly, for the kiwi, cut a green felt ball in half and add a small amount of white roving to the center and use the needle to felt it onto the felt ball half. Then use the marker to add the seeds.

For the peach, use the needle to felt a line down one side of the felt ball to create the peach “seam”.

Once all your fruit are made, use the glue gun to attach them to clear acrylic drink stirrers. Then pour yourself a glass and enjoy the fruits of your labor. Ha! See what I did there?!

Other Options:

If drink stirrers aren’t your thing, you can use this same technique to make magnets (just glue the felt balls onto magnet pieces instead of drink stirrers) or hair clips (glue the felt balls onto a plain barrette).
