DIY Fake Cake Easter Basket

filed under

In case you’ve missed it, I’ve been loving this “fake cake” trend that’s popping up everywhere lately. I’ve already shared the picture frame I embellished using this technique, but today I’m taking it to the next level with a DIY fake cake Easter basket! Are you ready? Let’s get into it.

So cute, right? This look just feels fresh and fun to me. You can head right here to see the full DIY video.

Instead of stocking up at the grocery store, hit your nearest hardware store and grab your supplies to get this “cake” cooking. Then let your inner cake artist take flight.

Supplies:

Instructions:

Step 1: Spray paint the plastic Easter bucket white. Let it dry.

Step 2: Spread on a layer of spackle with a butter knife or icing spatula, making sure to cover the entire outside of the bucket. Scrape any excess off the bottom. Let it dry.

Step 3: Add some spackle to a bowl, add in some pink acrylic paint, and stir. Put the pink spackle and some plain spackle into piping bags. Use both colors to add embellishments to your “cake.”

Step 4: Sprinkle on your clay sprinkles and attach your cherry pom-poms before the spackle has set.

There you go! Now you’re a professional “cake” decorator. You may want to keep this special Easter basket for display only.
